Japan and the Water of Life

May the floods that they so much dread make blessings break upon their head. -John Piper

Water drop

On March 11, 2011, the dreaded tsunamis swept away hope and life, leaving death and ruin in its wake. The water that swept them forward was dirty and dark, and carried the wreckage of homes and factories and human lives. But Scriptures tell us of a River of Life that flows from the throne of God that brings life and healing:

Then the angel showed me the river of the water of life, bright as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb through the middle of the street of the city; also, on either side of the river, the tree of life with its twelve kinds of fruit, yielding its fruit each month. The leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations. (Rev. 22:1-2; c.f. Ezekiel 47:1-12)

There is a Japanese worship song called “Water of Life” that, although written before the disaster, appropriately points us to God’s divine waters of life, hope, and healing. Please listen to it and pray for Japan (English translation by Mike):

Water of Life

VERSE:

Here the water of life is over-flowing

Sins and impurities are washed away and made clean

The starving and thirsty ones are all filled

For everyone who has no life, a flower blooms

BRIDGE:

Everything is alive This water is cleansing

Everything is alive This water is life

Everything is alive This water is fullness

I am alive!

CHORUS:

You are the wellspring; my life, my power, eternally

You are the wellspring; an over-flowing river
